Arrive by car, or by boat – Knorvarkie is located on one of the best fishing spots in Velddrif and invites guests with rooftop tents, ground tents, caravans or off-road trailers to come and enjoy a true West Coast camping experience…

“You’re part of the family, from the moment you set up camp.”

New to the Velddrif area, we didn’t anticipate spending a weekend feeling just as ‘at home’ and relaxed as we did during our stay at Knorvarkie. When it comes to creating a warm and welcoming ‘local is lekker’ atmosphere, Knorvarkie’s owners and staff know how to keep it real. Whether you’re a returning guest or a first-time visitor, you can expect the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like you’re part of the family from the moment you set up camp.

Visiting via boat? Knorvarkie provides a slipway area, as well as anchor pins for you to launch your boat, – or beach it right in front of your tent! All 9 of its campsite are located within walking distance from the water’s edge.

The Campsite

Knorvarkie’s campsite is situated within 30 – 40 meters walking distance of the river where campers have one of the best views of this end of the Berg River and fishing hotspot. There are 9 campsites, each with its own power point, braai and rubbish bin. Water points are located around the campsite and a rustic ablution block with hot and cold showers and toilets. A wash-up and kitchen area is located here too.

Knorvarkie’s campsite maintains its down-to-earth, laid-back charm by keeping things simple and focusing on the appeal and beauty of its natural surroundings, so if you’re expecting a 5-star glamping experience with secluded luxury, you may want to look elsewhere. If easy, fuss-free camping where you can decide to arrive on a Friday after work, cast your line, light the fire and relax is what you’re after, we can’t recommend this camping-home-away-from-home enough!

Activities

Fishing

As a fishing hot spot, popular fish to catch include Elf (Shad), Steenbras, Kabeljou, Leervis and Cob. For this, you’ll need a permit and your own fishing tackle.

Birdlife

We loved discovering and learning about the wide variety of birdlife here during a sunny morning walk to the other side of the river. Blue Crane, Herons, African Spoonbills, Pied Kingfisher and Malachite were just some.

Kayaking

Fibreglass canoes are available for you to rent from Knorvarkie’s campsites. Alternatively, you can rent Go Camp’s Fluid Synergy kayaks: click here

The River Shack

If you’re up for something more lively to stay warm, the venue’s restaurant & bar, The River Shack, brings Velddrif locals and out-of-towners together to enjoy live music, great food and gorgeous views of the Berg River. You can also order breakfast from the River Shack’s menu.

If you don’t get the chance to camp at Knor Varkie during your West Coast winter visit, day visitors are invited to come and enjoy its facilities too.

Knorvarkie is also pet-friendly for well-trained animals by prior arrangement.

Velddrif is rich with fun activities and fantastic new experiences and is one of the best places to spend your holiday.
