Located on the banks of the Breede River near Swellendam in the Western Cape, Xama Fish Eagle River Camp is a great riverside camping retreat that offers something for everyone, from couples and families to private groups and more.

Despite heavy winter rainfalls that have lead to some devastating floods over the years, this privately-owned campsite has relentlessly continued to expand on its offering and provides guests with a variety of enchanting campsites to choose from. With some more exciting developments underway the Xama team is looking forward to the enhancement of some of its off-road, wild camping and small game viewing activities to appeal to an even broader camping community.

Riverside Camping at Xama Fish Eagle River Camp

We recently visited Xama Fish Eagle River Camp for a weekend of winter camping on the Breede River. Even though the western cape had been dropping to temperatures cold enough to reveal snow-capped mountains en route, there’s something about camping next to a river in the middle of winter. The stillness in the air gave us clear nights and amplified sounds of the rushing river rapids as we listened to it all while lying in our tent looking up starlit skies.
