It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. If you haven’t decided where you and your family should set up camp for the festive season, here’s some inspiration from the Go Camp team…
Christmas by the Sea
Namaqua National Park, Northern Cape
Andrew, one of our Cape Town Directors, recommends setting up camp at one of Namaqua National Park’s coastal campsites. The Atlantic Ocean’s cool summer breeze and radiantly blue water are welcomed during the hot festive season…along with an ice-cold beer!
The following campsites are the coastal campsites located in the park:
Delwerskamp
Groen River
Kwass
Varswater
Bamboeskamp
Skuinsklip
Koringkorrel Baai
Skuinsbaai Noord
Boulder Baai

Wildlife & Bush
Nossob Rest Camp, Kgalagadi Transfontier Park, Northern Cape
This is a Go-Camp-Family favourite! If a Christmas morning game drive to check out some of Africa’s most exciting big cats sounds like the perfect gift for you and your family, then a booking at Nossob Rest Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a must. Nossob offers a predator information centre, a shop, fuel facilities and a swimming pool.
Choose between a standard campsite with shared ablutions or Nossob’s premium campsites with private bathrooms.
Although bookings are already full, keep an eye out on the SANParks website daily, as there are often cancellations to take advantage of.
TIP: Head over to the website just before midnight when the system refreshes!
Away from it all!
Damaraland, North West Namibia
If you can bravely be wholly self-sufficient and trade high temperatures for a true sense of aloneness and adventure, then a Damaraland Christmas Adventure won’t disappoint. Recommended by our Marketing team, this destination is not for the faint-hearted.
Desert-adapted wildlife, glorious colour-changing rock formations that never end, hidden valleys along endless dry river beds to explore…Damaraland is the gift that keeps on giving.
Mostly made up of communal desert land divided up into conservancies, Damaraland is located between Brandberg Mountain and the little village of Sesfontein, and to the east of the Skeleton Coast.
It’s a great destination for 4×4 self-driving enthusiasts – but if you don’t really really love being off-road and camping in remote places for several days at a time, you might be a bit uncomfortable. We’d strongly advise that first-timers go through an operator or someone who’s been here before – getting stuck is highly likely and help can be days away.
100% Family-Friendly
Bosveld Oase, Brits
Recommended by our Midrand Reservation Team, Bosveld Oase Campsite is located just 15 minutes from Brits and offers everything you need for a fun and festive family-friendly camping holiday.
From bushveld and wildlife, a super tube, twin racer slides, a big swimming pool, putt-putt, braai facilities, a kiosk and more, there is plenty to keep the kids busy while you kick back and relax by the braai (or join in the fun). Fishing is the big highlight here, with a catch-and-release policy.
Bosveld Oase Campsite won 2nd Place in the North West Readers’ Resort of the Year (2017).
Riverside Christmas Camping
Oewerbos River Camp, Vioolsdrift
The Orange River is an ideal place for water lovers wanting a paddle along South Africa’s longest river, and it’s also conveniently located for campers looking to stop over between the Cape and Namibia.
A Christmas Eve spent camping along the banks of the glittering Orange River under star-cluttered skies is one way to get into holiday mode. There are a number of different campsites here to suit everyone’s budget and preferences. Suppose you’re looking for somewhere relaxed to camp over Christmas or to stopover at en route to the Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. In that case, we recommend setting up camp at Oewerbos River Camp, Vioolsdrift, for a ‘home-away-from-home camping experience.
